Ingredients

  • 4 medium cooking apples
  • 1 teaspoon butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup real maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon chopped nuts, if desired
  • 1/2 cup caramel topping

Directions

  • 1
Heat oven to 375°F. Core apples. To prevent splitting, remove 1-inch strip of peel from around middle of each apple, or peel upper half of each apple. Place apples in ungreased 8-inch square (2-quart) glass baking dish.
  • 2
In center of each apple, place 1/4 teaspoon butter and 1 tablespoon syrup. Pour water into baking dish until 1/4 inch deep.
  • 3
Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until apples are tender when pierced with fork. (Spoon syrup mixture over apples several times during baking.) Sprinkle apples with cinnamon and nuts. Serve with caramel topping.
