When I was little my mom used to make this recipe very often and I loved it. Now we live far, and she doesn't cook for me anymore. So I asked her for the recipe and was disappointed to learn she didn't remember it, so with a bit of imagination I did it and it has been a huge success among and family and friends. The flavor is similar to apple pie, but the preparation is quicker and easier. The ingredients you probably have in your pantry all the time; and the presentation is very beautiful.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Parchment paper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 apples, peeled and chopped in thin layers
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups bread crumbs
  • 1 cup regular oatmeal (not instant)
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter (1 bar)
  • Vanilla ice cream or cream to serve, if desired

Directions

  • 1
Prepare a 9x5 inch baking pan, grease with butter and place the parchment paper on the bottom.
  • 2
Add lemon juice in a medium bowl. Peel and chop the apples in thin layers and place them immediately in the lemon juice so they don't brown and change color.
  • 3
Add the cinnamon and sugar and mix well.
  • 4
In another medium bowl, mix the bread crumbs, oatmeal and brown sugar. Stir well and add the melted butter, mix well with a fork.
  • 5
Place 1 layer of the bread crumbs, press down. Then, a layer of apple. Repeat and finish with another layer of bread crumbs.
  • 6
Bake covered with aluminum foil for 30 minutes; then remove the aluminum paper carefully and cook for another 30 minutes.
  • 7
Let cool. Refrigerate. Remove from the baking pan, slice and serve.
