Expert Tips

Add sliced red bell pepper or a little bacon to the sandwiches for a fun twist.

Directions

  • 1 Heat the tomato soup according to package instructions.
  • 2 If you’re using rolls, slice them open, or use sliced bread.
  • 3 Spread some of the mayonnaise on the bread and top with a slice of cheese.
  • 4 Add a slice of turkey followed by another slice of cheese.
  • 5 Close the sandwich with the top of the roll or another slice of bread which has been also been spread with mayonnaise.
  • 6 Spread a thin layer of butter on the outside of the breads to grill the sandwiches. In a hot frying pan or griddle heat until the cheese has melted and the bread is golden brown.
  • 7 Serve with cups of steamy soup.

Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich: a North American menu classic and one of my favorites since my arrival in the U.S. It’s also a perfect recipe to make the most of all those Thanksgiving turkey leftovers! For many U.S. Americans, this soup and sandwich pairings is a homemade staple, and it’s even a popular kid’s menu option in restaurants. To save time in the kitchen you can use Progresso™ soup. In this case, tomato basil soup goes perfectly with this grilled turkey and cheese sandwich.
