It’s versatile: you can prepare it for the pickiest of eaters and for any occasion, with sauces, creams, au gratin or more. This time, I’ve prepared a simple, delicious 5-ingredient pasta. Au gratin raviolis smothered in a flavorful emmental cheese sauce. The combination of flavors is unbeatable!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large white onion, sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 10 medium-sized ravioli
  • 1/2 cup emmental cheese, shredded
  • Green onion (optional), for garnish

Directions

  • 1
Preheat the oven to 400° F.
  • 2
In a small frying pan, add the 2 tablespoons of butter and onions, cooking over medium heat until golden. Season with nutmeg and salt and pepper, to taste.
  • 3
Divide 1/2 the cooked onion between 2 small plates.
  • 4
Fill a medium-sized pot with water, place over medium-high heat with enough water to cook the pasta. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to medium. Incorporate the 10 raviolis, let cook for 3-4 minutes, or according to package instructions. Remove from heat and drain.
  • 5
Arrange some raviolis over the onion mix on each plate, and pour the remaining onion mix over the top. Sprinkle with the cheese and bake for 8 minutes, or until the cheese has melted. Carefully remove. If you’d like, garnish with green onion and serve immediately.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
Cook the raviolis according to package instructions to avoid under- or overcooking, and to achieve the perfect flavor and texture.
  • tip 2
To keep the pasta from sticking, add 1 teaspoon of oil to the water.
