Aguas frescas are a tradition in my family. They add color and freshness to our meals and they're a great way for children to eat fruits and vegetables.
Normally the way we prepare aguas depends on seasonal fruits. Some of our favorites include pineapple, watermelon and cucumber, but we particularly like papaya agua fresca.
This tropical fruit can be found almost year-round, but is particularly sweet and tender in the summer. The flavor of the papaya is a bit hard to explain, but it is sweet and refreshing and its consistency is like silk. Add a little lemon juice to give it the perfect balance.
