I enjoy homemade simple syrup to flavor my drinks. I recently ventured into a little spice in my cocktail, and have fallen completely in love with the burst of warm flavor. I found that steeping my simple syrup with a jalapeno has really expanded my world of spicy drinks. I started with chili pepper ice cubes and felt that the flavor wasn't even, then I made syrup and it just worked. I started with a tequila punch, and have had a difficult time getting past it… because it's so good! You can make the syrup a few days ahead of time or flavor it with the chile of your choice.

Ingredients

  • 1 jalapeño
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup tequila
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup lime juice
  • 1 cup sparkling water

Directions

  • 1
In a saucepan over a high flame, add a sliced jalapeno and water. Bring to a boil.

  • 5
Top each glass with sparkling water evenly. Mix and enjoy.
