Do you have a lot of bread at home? Need a quick breakfast? A few years ago I woke up to find my husband and kids in the kitchen and they told me that their father was preparing Hollywood eggs. I had no idea what they were telling me, so I sat down to watch and wait. In seconds my husband cut the bread, cooked the egg in it and served us each a piece of toast. My kids were incredibly surprised and asked their father how he was able to do this. My husband proudly smiled and told him he can't give away his secret. But I saw exactly how he did it and today I want to share it with you.

Ingredients

  • 1 slice whole wheat bread
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • 1
Use a cookie cutter or cup to make a hole in the center of the bread. Heat a nonstick pan on high. Add the butter and lower the temperature once it's dissolved. Place the slices of bread in the pan and crack an egg in the hole.
  • 2
The cooking time will depend on how you like your eggs. If you want your egg fully cooked, I recommend breaking the yolk after 20 seconds. Wait 15 seconds and carefully flip the bread to allow the egg to cook on both sides.
  • 3
Serve the Hollywood egg on a plate with salt and pepper. Serve with salsa if you like.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
You can touch the yolk with your fingers to see how cooked it is. The firmer the yolk, the more cooked it is.
  • tip 2
You can use different types of bread.
