Spanish Fried Milk Dessert

This is a very easy dessert and it only takes a few ingredients. You can even prepare it before-hand to save time. All you have to do is prepare the cream the day before: when it is cold and has soured, cut it in cubes or in any shape you want and cover it in flour before you fry it. You will get a crunchy dessert with a creamy inside! Delicious!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 strip lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • Strawberry sauce, to taste
  • Fresh strawberries, for garnish, to taste
  • Mint leaves, for garnish, to taste

Directions

    In a pot, mix milk with cornstarch and sugar until dissolved. Add lemon zest. Cook on medium, always stirring so as not to make it stick to the pot. The milk will thicken little by little. You need a very thick consistency.

    Remove lemon zest and add vanilla. Pour preparation on a mold previously dampened. Spread on the mold and let cool, in the fridge or at room temperature. Let rest for a few hours, preferably overnight. It has to be firm.

    When the milk is cold and solid, cut in 16 squares or rectangles. You can also shape it into circles.

    Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat. In a bowl, put the flour, and in a separate on, add the eggs. Submerge each milk piece in the flour, remove excess, and then submerge in the eggs.

    Fry each piece, turning once, until golden. Drain on paper towels.

    Serve at room temperature with a bit of strawberry sauce. Garnish with one strawberry for each dish and mint leaves.
