I remember my first times in the kitchen were spent watching my sister and my mom cook. I always wanted to be a participant, but as the youngest in the house, they rarely let me. Later, I got the title of "sauce taster," and I got to help my sister with seasoning and tasting what she prepared. Little by little I learned recipes, and once in a while I experimented with things without much success. I've always been fond of sweets, so my recipes always had something sweet.
Among my favorite recipes is the frosted arequipe cookie, which brings back fond memories of my childhood. Since I've always had a sweet tooth, arequipe usually finds a place in my desserts, since this sweet caramel treat always makes me happy. It also makes for a great remedy for sadness, so when I'm not feeling my best, one spoonful will usually (and instantly) lift my spirits.
