Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying
  • 3 1/2 cups Bisquick™ Original baking mix
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup ground almonds
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon almond extract
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Directions

    In 2-quart saucepan, place 2 inches of vegetable oil. Heat over medium-high heat until deep-fry thermometer reads 375°F. Place 1/4 cup sugar in paper or food-storage plastic bag; set aside.

    Meanwhile, in medium bowl, stir together Bisquick mix, 1 tablespoon sugar and the ground almonds. In small bowl, mix water and almond extract. Stir into dry ingredients until soft dough forms.

    To make churros, use freezer plastic bag with 1-inch hole cut in 1 bottom corner or a decorating bag with 1-inch hole. Working in batches, spoon dough into bag; seal bag (twist or fold top of decorating bag).

    Holding bag with one hand and carefully cutting dough with scissors, drop dough by 1 1/2-inch pieces into hot oil. Fry each piece (will become a ball) 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes, turning once, until center is fully cooked and balls are golden brown.

    Place churro balls in bag with sugar; shake to coat. Serve warm.
