One of the recipes that I enjoy making most is chocolate turrón with almonds. It’s so good, I’m sure your kids will love it too. In fact, why not let them help you prepare this recipe and award the leftover chocolate spatula to the best helper? With Christmas already on the way, cooking and experimenting at home is a great way to share quality time with your children while waiting for this special day. You can take advantage of this recipe to also create a delicious holiday gift for friends or family. Whether it’s chocolates, cookies or marmalades, a homemade gift is always well received. This is an ideal recipe-it’s easy to prepare and budget-friendly! You only need a little creativity and if you like, these turrón bars can even be made in bite-size portions for combining with other sweets. Really, who doesn’t like a chocolate gift every now and then?

Ingredients

  • 2 (3.5-oz) dark chocolate bars
  • 1/2 cup whole toasted almonds

Directions

  • 1
To start, break the chocolate into pieces and place in a bain marie or water bath for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The chocolate can also be melted in the microwave for two minutes, stopping at intervals of 30 seconds to stir and prevent burning.
  • 2
Once the chocolate is completely melted, add the almonds and mix well. Pour the mixture into a silicon candy bar mold or in my case, I use a plastic container that I purchased in a grocery store for storing chocolate bars. You can also use a soft ice cube tray (flexible) or a silicon mold for loaves of bread.

Allow to cool and enjoy! If you plan on gifting your chocolate bars, wrap in aluminum foil and decorate with a Christmas-style ribbon or place in a gift-basket alongside other treats.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
Try mixing inflated rice into the chocolate to create a crunchier chocolate bar.
  • tip 2
Coffee, amaretto, cherry or orange liquor can also be added to give a distinct yet delicioso touch to the recipe.
