Did you know that Cheerios™ are perfect for breading? Give this popular cereal a try and use it instead of bread when making these delicious chicken nuggets. The slightly sweet flavor of cereal goes perfectly well with the chicken. Children love chicken nuggets, and it’s so easy to make them at home. You can ask your butcher to grind the chicken if you don’t have a food processor at home. All hands on deck!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. chicken breasts
  • 4 cups Original Cheerios™ Cereal
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup oil

Directions

  • 1
Grind the chicken using a food processor. If you don’t have one, you can buy ground chicken meat or ask the butcher to grind it for you. As a last resort, you can chop the chicken into small pieces.
  • 2
Crush the Cheerios™. It’s easy to do. I used a glass, but you can do it with a rolling pin or in a food processor.
  • 3
Add the egg to the ground chicken and stir. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • 4
Heat the oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
  • 5
While waiting for the oil to heat up, make the chicken nuggets. Take some chicken and cover it with crushed cereal, shaping it with your hands. Repeat this until you’ve used all of the chicken.
  • 6
Fry the nuggets in the hot oil until both sides are golden brown.
  • 7
Let them cool down for a few minutes and serve.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
If you have enough time, you can put the breaded nuggets in the fridge for about twenty minutes before frying. This will make them a bit more compact.
  • tip 2
Make twice as many nuggets and freeze them or keep them in the fridge. Heat them up in the oven before serving.
