Each year the Three Kings, Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar, bring us many gifts and mark an important date in the traditional Christmas celebration. I invite you to make these edible Three Kings and picture them on their quest to seek the all-important star that guided them on their way to Bethlehem!

Ingredients

  • 1 round chocolate cookie
  • 2 round vanilla cookies (same size as the chocolate cookie)
  • 1 box of Fruit by the Foot™ Variety Pack
  • 6 pastry leaves (approximately 3 mm each)
  • White cookie frosting
  • Wax paper
  • Permanent marker

Directions

  • 1
Unroll the Fruit by the Foot®. I chose "Tie-dye" (red with blue) and "Color by the foot" (orange and green).
  • 2
Place 3 green and orange strips on a piece of wax paper, and over them place 3 red and blue strips, making sure they overlap a little to give you a lined paper effect.
  • 3
Cover with another piece of wax paper and then place one of the cookies over the paper; with the marker, trace around the cookie and draw a beard.
  • 4
Use a pair of scissors to cut the wax paper along the border.
  • 5
Place the wax paper beard cutout onto the Fruit by the Foot® strips and use it as a guide to cut out the beard.
  • 6
Repeat step 3-5 two more times, making two more beards.
  • 7
Use the pre-marked area of the strips to make the crown (see orange and yellow crowns); always use two strips, one on top of the other.
  • 8
Cut the other crowns in the same way as the beards. The red balls on the yellow crown can be made by balling up bits of the Fruit by the Foot® with your fingers.
  • 9
Use the white frosting to paste your decorations on the cookies.
