Expert Tips

Place the sliced apples in water before they are used to avoid the oxidation process and keep them looking nice and fresh.

Directions

  • 1 Preheat oven to 350° F.
  • 2 Add eggs, vegetable oil, water and cake mix to a mixer and mix until smooth. Set to the side.
  • 3 Chop whole pecans and place to the side.
  • 4 Peel and slice apples. Set to the side.
  • 5 Spray a 13x9 cake pan with nonstick baking spray.
  • 6 Pour cajeta evenly into pan. Make sure the entire bottom is covered by brushing it with a pastry brush or the back of a spoon.
  • 7 Sprinkle the top of the cajeta with the chopped pecans.
  • 8 Carefully arrange apple slices in the pan to cover the cajeta and pecans.
  • 9 Pour the cake batter into the pan.
  • 10 Place cake into the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes.
  • 11 Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • 12 Then place a large plate on top of the pan and flip over.
  • 13 Carefully remove pan from cake. Enjoy!
