My grandmother used to drink a warm cup of milk every night before sleeping. She said that it helped her sleep, and it must have worked because she always slept like a baby. I don't follow grandma's tradition, but I have a ritual of my own. A couple hours before sleep I drink either a relaxing herbal tea, or sometimes, if I'm still hungry, a relaxing night time smoothie. Vegetable juices and smoothies are a great addition to a light dinner, and if you use the best combination of relaxing ingredients, it can be a very powerful sleeping aid. Lettuce, for example, was used in ancient Egypt as a sleep-inducing medicine. Bananas are very calming, and fennel helps digestion, guaranteeing a good night's sleep with peaceful dreams.
