There is nothing more refreshing than citrus, and orange is one of my favorites. I feel so attracted by its color; I love wearing orange because it makes me feel radiant. That is the way I want you to feel when preparing and presenting this orange mousse I’m sharing with you today. It’s a delicious and silky dessert that takes you right to the Garden of Eden with its extraordinary mixture of flavors and texture, drenched in melted chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium size oranges
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 package (3 ozs) of orange-flavored gelatin powder
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1 1/2 cup whipped cream
  • 2 tablespoons orange liqueur
  • 2 ozs of melted semisweet chocolate

Directions

  • 1
Cut the oranges in half horizontally. Using a small sharp knife, cut the inner edges of the orange to remove the fruit without piercing the skin, and use a spoon remove all the fruit leaving the skin clean.
  • 2
Clean the fruit or segments by carefully removing the white skin. Put the fruit in a bowl while preparing the other ingredients.
  • 3
In a deep bowl and using a wire beater, mix the cup of boiling water and the package of orange gelatin for about 2 minutes until it is totally dissolved. Add the ice cubes and stir until they are completely dissolved.
  • 4
Carefully add the whipped topping (previously whipped with an electric beater until thickened for about 3 minutes), the orange liqueur and mix folding in and blend all the ingredients until you get a silky mousse.
  • 5
Place half of the clean fruit in the bottom of the 8 orange peels and reserve the other half to garnish.
  • 6
Using a small ladle, fill the peels with the mixture; put the melted chocolate on top with a small spoon, giving the desired shape. Cool off the peels with the mixture of orange gelatin in the fridge for 30 minutes until it thickens and gets the desired consistency.
  • 7
Garnish with the segments or the remaining fruit on top and enjoy it!

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
I recommend not whipping the cream too much since it would lose the consistency and become watery easily.
  • tip 2
You can use white chocolate or the one you prefer to cover the mousse.
  • tip 3
You can keep the orange mousse in the fridge for two days putting it in a covered container to protect it from the cold.
