Expert Tips

This recipe can be customized to your kids’ favorite flavors! Add chocolate chips, a variety of dried fruits or use hazelnut spread instead of almond butter.

Desserts are a regular affair in our home; my kids look forward to desert time all day! Offering them whole grain food that doubles as a sweet treat is something that I feel good about, too. Whole grain recipes need not always be the entrée, and I love that my kids get added benefits, even in their after-dinner treat. Multi Grain Cheerios™, combined with quinoa flakes and dried fruit, and slathered in gooey marshmallows is a great combination of flavors. Kid and mom approved!

Directions

  • 1 In a saucepan, heat marshmallows and butter over low heat until well combined, stirring constantly. Stir in almond butter until incorporated. Remove from heat.
  • 2 Add Cheerios™, dried fruit and quinoa flakes. Mix until everything is coated and let rest. Cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • 3 Using your hand, shape the cereal mix into 2-3 inch balls. Insert a lollipop stick on each ball.
  • 4 Let stand for 30 minutes until slightly hardened.
