In 4-quart Dutch oven, place sweet potatoes and enough water just to cover potatoes. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover; simmer 20 to 25 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork. Drain, peel (carefully) and set aside.

In same pan, heat syrup and butter to boiling. Reduce heat to low. Add potatoes; mash potatoes with syrup mixture, using electric mixer on medium speed, until light and fluffy. Stir in salt and nutmeg. Sprinkle with pecans.
