Expert Tips

Alcohol free version: Prepare this drink without the rum by simple replacing it with mineral water or sparkling lemonade.

Directions

  • 1 Boil two cups of water in a pot. Add the hibiscus flowers. Lower the heat and let simmer without covering for about 20 to 30 minutes or until becomes deep red in color.
  • 2 Strain and get rid of the flowers. Add the sugar and stir until it dissolves. Let cool completely.
  • 3 Add the mint leaves to a jar and mash them with a cocktail masher.
  • 4 Add the rum, lemon juice and hibiscus water. Mix well and taste. Adjust the rum and sugar to taste. Add ice and then add the mineral water and mix.
