My son is three years old, and is just now learning the difference between the seasons. Recently he has been asking me “is it summertime, mama?” I look down at his innocent face and with lots of cariño I say to him “Yes it is baby.” Then he’ll say: “It’s hot outside.” I’m happy that he makes the connection between the two, but I have really been going out of my way to teach him all the wonderful things summer brings. I enrolled him in swimming lessons, been visiting the beach, took him to several amusement parks, and when we’re at home we play catch with water balloons. I didn’t feel like that was enough… I wanted to make him a summer drink that I knew he would love and would be able to associate with the summer heat. Luckily I had just received a box of the new Hershey’s™ Cookies ‘n’ Creme cereal. I opened it and poured myself a handful to munch on. Right then my son comes in and digs his hand into the box to taste what I was making a fuss over. To my delight, he liked the cereal, which gives me green light to create something with it. I decided to make him a summer shake he wouldn’t forget. I used vanilla ice cream and the cereal to make him what I knew would now represent summertime.
