The holiday season is fast approaching and like every year, we are preparing to celebrate with the family. I always start collecting the recipes of the dishes I like to prepare around this time, especially appetizers or snacks because they are the ones that kick off the meal and keep the conversation going. When I can, I like to use vegetable in appetizers for Thanksgiving. They add color, flavor and texture. Today's recipe is a delicious combination of cream cheese, herbs, broccoli and a little spice. Pinwheels are an excellent choice for your Thanksgiving dinner because they are quick and easy to make, they look very cute and your guests will not even need a plate because they can be eaten with your hands. I hope you like them!

Ingredients

  • 1 bag (12 oz) frozen broccoli florets
  • 4 scallions (green onion)
  • 8 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 2 jalapeno chiles, deveined and finely chopped
  • 2 cans (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls (8 Count)
  • Salt and pepper

Directions

  • 1
Cook the broccoli as per their instructions. I microwaved the bag for 7 minutes.
  • 2
While the broccoli cooks, finely chop the onions and basil. Stir the onions, basil, cream cheese and jalapeño peppers until all the ingredients are uniformly combined.
  • 3
Remove the broccoli from the microwave, let sit for a minute, open and chop the broccoli into smaller pieces. You’ll only need 2/3 of the bag. Keep the rest refrigerated for later use.
  • 4
Open one package of Pillsbury™ Crescents and extend it over a clean surface. Add a line of broccoli down the middle of the dough.
  • 5
    Add salt and pepper.
  • 6
Roll up again. Do the same with the second package of crescents.
  • 7
Cover each roll in plastic and refrigerate for 15 minutes. These will make the rolls firm and easier to cut.
  • 8
    Preheat the oven for 350°F.
  • 9
After the 15 minutes, remove them from the oven and use a sharp knife to cut 1-inch slices. Each roll with result in about 18 pinwheels.
  • 10
Bake for 9-11 minutes or until they’ve browned a bit.
  • 11
Remove from the oven and let sit for a minute. Serve immediately.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
If the cream cheese isn't at room temperature, microwave it for a few minutes.
  • tip 2
When you extend the dough, be sure to seal the perforations. This will make it much easier to roll up again.
