Colombians will eat arepas at any time. We love them with eggs for breakfast, a perfect side at lunch, and delicious in the evening with hot chocolate. End of the year parties are no exception. You can shape your arepas like Christmas trees and top them with guacamole. No one can resist them!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups precooked corn flour
  • 2 cups of warm water
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon of butter
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 red pepper cut in cubes or strips

Directions

    In a deep dish, add the corn flour, water, cheese and salt.
  • 2
    Knead well and form small balls with the dough.

    Flatten the dough and cut into Christmas tree shapes, you can use a cookie cutter or knife.

    Cook the arepas on a saucepan or griddle; make sure it’s greased.

    Flip once golden.
  • 6
    Prepare the guacamole by mashing the avocado pulp and seasoning with a few drops of lime, salt, and a bit of spicy chili pepper if you like.

    Spread the guacamole over the surface of the arepas and decorate with red pepper.
