BBQ Sauce with Raisins and Cascabel Chili

Raisins are delicious ingredients that go really well with desserts and salads. In Indian cuisine, the raisin is used to prepare chutney and is added to their basmati rice. I love this sweet and salty combination because it gives dishes a different flavor. In my personal recipe repertoire, I have many delicious recipes that use raisins as a main ingredient as well as cascabel chili, a dry chili that is a little spicy, but very tasty. I invite you to cook up this delicious raisin BBQ sauce with cascabel chilies!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of raisins
  • 6 cascabel chilies (cleaned, seedless, and stem removed)
  • 2 garlic
  • 2 cup of water
  • 2 cups of honey BBQ sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of powdered cumin
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper

Directions

    Place a deep pot on the stove and add the raisins, cascabel chili, garlics and the two cups of water. Boil for 20 minutes until the raisins and chilies are tender.

    Let this mixture cool and mix in a blender or a food processor using only one cup of the water the mixture was boiled in.

    Pour the sauce through a colander to remove the skins and so that the sauce has soft texture.

    Pour the raisin sauce with cascabel chili in another pot and add the honey BBQ sauce, season with cumin, salt, and pepper. Use the left over liquid to dilute the mixture if necessary.

    This sauce should be thick and is perfect for ribs, BBQ chicken and even to season grilled salmon.

    You can use chile de árbol if you can’t find cascabel chili in your local supermarket.

    You can also use golden raisins or prunes to make it a little sweeter.
