Expert Tips

One serving of this oatmeal provides many nutrients: both soluble and insoluble fiber, iron, calcium, folic acid and that good-for-you fat, omega-3, from the walnuts! Keep leftovers on hand to reheat for another day.

Whole Grain Serving: 1 1/2

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. In 2-quart casserole, mix oats, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, 4 cups milk and the apples.
  • 2 Bake uncovered 40 to 45 minutes or until most liquid is absorbed. Sprinkle walnuts over top. Serve with additional milk.
