The combination of certain ingredients may initially seem odd. That’s the case of asparagus and three different types of cheese. What’s interesting about this recipe is that it blends a series of flavors and textures to result in a simple, easy and quick dish - without much difficulty! It’s a great alternative for treating unexpected guests, and doesn’t take too long to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1 crust from 1 box (14.1 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Pie Crusts (2 Count)
  • 1 lb fresh green asparagus
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup provolone cheese

Directions

  • 1
Place the rack in the center of the oven. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  • 2
Unroll and stretch the pie crust. Place it in the tart pan (rectangular, 8x11 1/2 inches). Prick the dough with a fork to keep the center from puffing up. Cook for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  • 3
Hold the asparagus by the ends and peel the stalks with a potato peeler.
  • 4
In a medium pot, heat up 6 cups of water with the salt. When it comes to a boil, add asparagus. Cook for 3 minutes, remove and drain very carefully so they don’t fall apart.
  • 5
Add cheeses to the previously cooked tart. Arrange the asparagus; if possible, make two or more layers, depending on the depth of the pan. Sprinkle with more cheese and put it in the oven for about 15-20 minutes, until the cheese melts.
  • 6
Let it cool at room temperature, unmold and serve warm. Be very careful when you take it out of the oven.
