Expert Tips

You can also serve these toasts with salami, olives, diced ham and cheese.

July 4th is one of the happiest and most anticipated celebrations for adults and kids alike. Friends and families take the opportunity to get together to barbeque while enjoying the outdoors, while the summer heat is an invitation to hit the beach or pool. And at night, the fireworks decorate and light up the sky. Independence Day is also a patriotic occasion when we celebrate our national pride as Americans. The whole nation is dressed in patriotic colors, and I’m joining the fun with these fun snacks. My flag toasts are cute slices of toasted bread with olive oil, red pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese meant to resemble the American flag. I suggest serving them with Totino's™ or mini pizzas… always a hit with the kids! Enjoy!

Directions

  • 1 Cut the baguette into toast slices.
  • 2 Mix the oil, parsley, salt and garlic cloves in a bowl.
  • 3 Moisten the bread on both sides with this mixture.
  • 4 Place the slices of bread on a grill rack and bake at 350°F or in heated saucepan.
  • 5 Toast a bit on both sides and remove.
  • 6 Brush them with the red sauce and add mozzarella strips, as if you were making the American flag.
  • 7 Return to the heat to finish toasting.
  • 8 Serve with Totino’s™ and enjoy!
