One of my earliest memories is of my family roasting an entire pig in our backyard for Christmas Eve dinner. My parents raised me on a hearty diet of Cuban food, and I understood at an early age that food was about more than nutrition or even pleasure. Food is about culture and history – two topics I love to explore as a writer, blogger and copy editor. When I travel to foreign countries, I insist on exploring local flavors because they reflect the people who live there. Each time I return, my mother insists on cooking shredded beef and white rice. It tastes like home.
